Education Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the idea that I want each of my students to flourish and reach their full potential. “Flourish: grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of as particularly favourable environment” (Google, 2015)the definition sums up my belief about my classroom enviroment it is to be a place where my students can grow to their fullest potential. There are many facets to helping my students flourish, however at the root of them all is care. When students are cared for they feel safe and supported and as if they belong in the classroom, part of showing care is that all students have a chance to shine. Every student shines in their own unique way and I believe in giving each of them the opportunity to shine in the way that is best for them. My favourite quote for describing how important it is that each individual student be allowed to be an individual and shine in his or her own way is “Today you are you, that are truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You” (Seuss, 1959). Part of this is the concept of equality and giving each student the tools that they need to succeed knowing that every student will need their own unique set of tools to flourish.
